Disappointment With God
There are times in our lives when we become disappointed with God. We become disappointed because something we longed, prayed, and believed God for went unfulfilled. Not only did it go unfulfilled, but the exact opposite happened bringing tremendous pain into our lives. As a result, we become disappointed with God.
Disappointment with God can cause us to become bitter and angry toward God. It can cause us to doubt if God really cares or doubt if God exists at all. Discouragement and despair sets in. Consequently, we begin to turn away from God. We find it impossible to trust God. We begin to question many of the things we thought we believed.
During this time of disappointment, our emotional, spiritual, and physical pain increases. Depression sets in. We wonder if we will ever feel happiness again. It's not that we enjoy feeling this way. Deep inside, we want to trust God. We want the joy of our relationship with God to return.
Maybe this is how you feel. Something for which you longed, prayed, and believed God for did not come about. You have become disappointed with God. Doubt, discouragement, depression, and despair have set in. I wish I had some great spiritual advice for you. I wish I had great spiritual counseling to offer. But I don't.
What I do know is that many people in the Bible struggled with the same feelings you do. The book of Psalms is filled with those who were struggling with disappointment, doubt, discouragement, depression, and despair.
And this I know also...God loves you. He really does. At this moment, I know it may not feel to you like he does, but he does. He loves you.
On this side of heaven, we may never understand why things happen the way they do. We may not ever understand why our longings went unfulfilled, our prayers unanswered, and our beliefs unrealized. We may never understand why things turned out the way they did.
Even though I do not have many answers for you, I want you to know I feel for you. I hurt for you. I have compassion for you. I sympathize with you. I am sorry things turned out for you the way they did. I am sorry for the hurt and pain you are feeling.
I wish there was something I could say in this blog that would make things better for you. But please know you are loved and you are not alone.
In Revelation 21, God says that one day he will wipe away every tear and there will be no more hurt, pain, crying, or mourning. Until then, know that he loves you.
