Finding My Place In The World

The world is a big place, with many places…how can I find my place in the world?

There are so many places I can go.

There are so many things I can do.

Where do I go?

What do I do?

Where do I fit in this world?

These are good questions deserving good answers.

So, how do people find their place in the world?

We find our place in the world by identifying how we are individually designed then utilizing our gifts to impact others.

Below are a variety of questions that may help you find where you fit in the world, and in finding where you fit in the world, you may find fulfillment in life.

Some of the questions you may be able to answer immediately, but others not so quickly.

As you answer the questions, be easy on yourself. You may not have answers to all the questions, nor will all the questions be applicable to you.

And many times, the questions are answered over a period of time and not at one time. So give yourself grace as the answers to these questions unfold in your life, trusting God to unfold the answers in his time.

First: What is my potential? A person’s potential is something someone is naturally good at and then builds upon that potential to develop it and to deploy it in the lives of others for good.

  • What do I excel at doing?

  • What do others say I am good at doing?

  • What comes easy for me, though I may have had to put effort into developing it?

  • Is there something I tend to do better than others?

Second: What is my pleasure? A person’s pleasure is something that brings them joy when they do it.

  • What do I enjoy doing that brings me fulfillment?

  • What brings others joy when I do it?

Third: What is my passion? A person’s passion is something someone cares deeply or feels strongly about.

  • What do I get excited about?

  • What problems burden me in the world or in my community that need to be solved?

  • What topics interest me?

  • What events excite me?

Fourth: What is my past? A person’s past can sometimes point someone in a direction for the future.

  • What experiences have I had in life, good or bad?

  • How can I utilize my past experiences to help others in their present experiences?

  • Is their present reality my past reality?

  • What is it about my past that may help others in their present?

Fifth: What is my pain? The pain a person has experienced in life can enable them to feel the pain of others in their lives.

  • Who do I empathize with as it relates to their life experiences?

  • Is there a pain others are feeling emotionally, relationally, spiritually, or physically that I have felt?

  • How can I use the pain I have felt to comfort others in their pain?

Sixth: What is my plan? A plan is a strategic series of steps to implement something I see in my head (vision of the future) and feel in my heart (passion in the present) that will impact the lives of others.

  • What do I need to be educated about further?

  • What do I need to establish first?

Seventh: Who are the people? There may be other people who share your passion and vision that you may ask to join you.

  • Who do I need to encourage to join with me in this vision, if anyone?

  • Who do I need to explain the vision to, if any one?

Note: Some people, if not many people, may criticize your vision. That’s okay, move forward anyway.

Most people will not share your passion for your vision, move forward anyway.

However, some may see it and join you…take them with you!

Eighth: What is my purpose? The word purpose is the reason something or someone exists.

You exist on this earth because you were created by God.

You have been uniquely designed by God with tremendous potential.

As you work through the above questions, ask God to lead you to discover your place in the world.
