Many believers have been taught to relate to God by adhering to denominational or organizational formulas to stay forgiven and in fellowship with God.

Two of these formulas are P.R.A.Y and A.C.T.S.

These are two commonly used formulas taught within churches and ministries, which are based upon the prayers of those living under the old covenant.

A.C.T.S. stands for Adoration (adoring God, telling God how great he is), Confession (telling God how bad we are, telling God about our sins, then asking him to forgive us – which restores fellowship), Thanksgiving (thanking God for his forgiveness and his blessings in our lives), and Supplication (talking to God about what is on our hearts, making requests of God).

P.R.A.Y. stands for Praise (praise God for how great he is, tell him how great he is), Repentance (as we see how great God is, we see how bad we are, so we confess our sins to God and ask him to forgive us-this restores fellowship with God and draws us close to him), Apply (in prayer, ask God to help us apply his word to our lives), and Yield (through prayer, we offer ourselves to God).

In many churches and ministries all over the world, believers are taught to relate to God through these types of formulas rather than the finished work of Jesus and his Spirit living in them (the new testament of grace established in the blood of Jesus - Matthew 26:28; Luke 22:20).

Most believers are never taught the fullness of the gospel of grace but, instead, are taught to follow formulas.

This was my experience before coming to understand the new testament of grace.

I was taught I was saved by grace through faith, but then I was taught to relate to God by formulas.

The good news of the new covenant of grace is that we relate to God by faith in the Jesus who loves us, gave his life for us, and now lives eternally within us.

In the new testament of grace, we relate to God as Abba, Father.

We are always forgiven by God and in fellowship with him.

No formulas needed.
