What Is God Saying To The World At Christmas? Part Three

Is there a God?

Can I know God?

These are questions many people all over the world ask.

At Christmas, God answers these questions for people all over the world with a resounding yes.

Yes, there is a God.

Yes, you can know God.

God has revealed himself to us in Jesus.

Colossians 2:2-3 says,

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Notice what this verse says about the mystery of God.

The mystery of who God is solved in Christ, meaning Jesus.

2 Corinthians 4:6 says,

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

God revealed himself to the human race through Jesus.

Not only did God reveal himself to the human race through Jesus, but God reconciled himself to the human race through Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 says,

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.

The word reconcile means to remove the barrier, obstacle, or problem separating one person from another person so a relationship can be restored.

We were created by God to be in a relationship with God.

However, the human race chose to walk away from this relationship.

This decision is called sin (see Romans 5:12-21).

When sin entered the human race and human heart through Adam, all people were separated from God because of sin.

This was a problem…a sin problem.

Sin brought judgment and death.

However, God in Christ reconciled the world to himself by taking upon himself all sins for all people for all time; thus, solving the sin problem.

This is what Jesus did at the cross.

He took upon himself the judgment and death brought upon the human race because of sin, then he rose from the dead.

As a result, God is no longer counting our sins against us…problem solved!

Remember, this is what 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 says,

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.

Through Jesus, God has removed the barrier of sin separating us from a relationship with him.

Through belief in Jesus, a person begins a relationship with God.

In this relationship, a person is assured of God’s full and forever forgiveness.

Also, those who believe in Jesus are assured they are righteous before God, meaning innocent of having ever sinned.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says,

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The words might become is one Greek word in the original writing, which means to emerge forth.

So when a person believes in Jesus for salvation, this person emerges forth as eternally righteous before God…that’s right, eternally righteous!

This is because God in Jesus took upon himself the sinfulness of us all and offers to us righteousness.

Those who place their faith in Jesus experience full forgiveness of sins and emerge forth as righteousness - or completely innocent of all sins for all time!

With this understanding, a person can now enjoy a relationship with God.

If you would like to begin a relationship with God, the prayer below is a simple way to express your belief in Jesus.

God, I may not understand everything about you, but I believe that you revealed yourself to the world through Jesus. I believe that you were in Jesus reconciling the world to yourself by taking upon yourself our sins. I believe you are not counting my sins against me, because they were all counted against you. I believe I am fully forgiven by you and righteous before you. I am now in a relationship with you.
