Why Did Jesus Come Into The World?
Paul, in 1 Timothy 1:15, answers this question:
"Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners..."
Here is another question.
What did sinners need to be saved from?
Let's start with the end in mind.
We know from Revelation that Jesus is making everything new.
When the new heaven and new earth are established, there will be no more tears, mourning, crying, or pain because the former things will pass away and all things will be new.
Toward that end, God's is working all things out.
To make all things new, God will remove all things that produce tears, mourning , crying, and pain.
The Jewish Scriptures reveal that God in his wrath will remove all sin and sinners from the present earth in preparation for and establishment of the new earth.
The removal of sin and sinners in his wrath and the establishment of the new earth is motivated by God's love for people and his plan to create a pain free world.
But to create this new earth, the old has to be removed - this is the wrath of God toward sin and sinners.
The wrath of God is the cleansing of the earth of everything and everyone that brings pain.
Paul makes the case in Romans (1-5) and Ephesians (2) that all have sinned and are sinners and are under the wrath of God.
Yet in both Romans and Ephesians, we discover that Jesus took upon himself at the cross the wrath of God upon sin and sinners.
In Romans and Ephesians, this is called grace (the kindness of God).
It is God's grace that we will marvel at for all eternity (Ephesians 2:7).
Those who believe (trust) in Jesus will not perish in wrath but will live eternally on the new earth (John 3:16).
So why did Jesus come into the world?
Jesus came into the world to save sinners from the wrath to come because God loves us so much that he doesn't want anyone to perish when he cleanses the earth but he wants all to experience eternal life on the new earth (2 Peter 3).
